Commercial distributors claim that Hissers are higher in
protein, highly nutritious, lives longer and are easier to
handle when compared to other major feeder insects such as
feeder crickets. Feeder Hissing cockroaches are perfect for
larger insectivorous pets such as such as giant chameleons,
Bearded dragons, monitors, tortoises, non-human primates,
baboon spiders and tarantulas.
In a breeding colony, feeder Hissing cockroaches can be harvested by removing an egg
crate covered by roaches and by shaking them into a covered
bucket or container.
When Hissers are in the so-called "hydrostatic pressure period" they make
the best food for baboon spiders and tarantulas.
