Because fly
ants are wild
caught, they are an excellent source of natural vitamins and
minerals. Fly ants are also naturally high in proteins. When they are stored however, they loose
some of their nutritional value as feeder insects and will need additional
dusting with a suitable
vitamin and mineral supplement to improve their nutritional
value.
Because of their size (±1.5 cm /
0.6 ") and mobility, they are also perfect to feed to small baby
and juvenile lizards, fish, amphibians, arachnids and
chameleons. Feeder fly ants do however have the problem of climbing from
and hiding in small places. This can be overcome by feeding them
by hand and only feeding the amount that can be consumed in the
recommended feeding period. Escapees will eventually die and
attract ants and other unwanted predators to the cage.
