In addition to
feeder cricket gut loading, crickets should
also be dusted. Feeder cricket dusting can be done by simply
covering the insect with a suitable calcium supplementation. It
can be simply done by throwing feeder crickets into a plastic
bag or a small tub with a pinch or two of the supplement and by
mixing / shaking it until the all the insects are covered.
Feeder cricket dusting should
take place at least two to three times a week and is especially
important to growing and gravid animals as their physiological
calcium needs are higher than the rest.
It is important to note that
although a suitable multivitamin powdered supplement is also
necessary from time to time, that the main and most important
supplement is calcium (or calcium / vitamin D3 combinations).
The supplement being used must be suitable for the animal being
supplemented.
