Although
feeder cockroaches are naturally high in vitamins and minerals,
they can be dusted to even more increase their calcium (Ca)
contents in addition to increasing their Ca:P ration. Feeder
cockroach dusting can be simply done by covering the insect with a suitable calcium supplementation.
This can be done by throwing a bunch of these insects into a
plastic bag or a small tub with a pinch or two of the supplement
and by mixing / shaking the bag until the all the insects are covered.
When it is
indicated that the insectivorous pet needs additional calcium
supplementation, feeder cockroach dusting is indicated at least two to three times a week.
This is especially
important to growing and gravid animals as their physiological
calcium needs are higher than the rest of their species.
It is important to note that
although a suitable multivitamin powdered supplement is also
necessary from time to time, that the main and most important
supplement is Ca (or calcium / vitamin D3 combinations).
The supplement being used must be suitable for the pet animal being
supplemented.
